Note: As "I.M. Control" now manages MySpace as well as all "Instant Messaging" services, any time limits set for your child's use of Instant Messenger also apply to the use of MySpace!
Simple Steps to set up "Instant Messenger"
TIME CONTROLS for every child!
1. Make sure to be ONLINE… this and every time you wish to create or adjust any “IM schedule”.
2. Locate the small  icon in the lower right corner of your computer screen. RIGHT-click on this icon. Now left-click on Parent Controls.
Your web browser will open and display a “LOGIN” screen for you to access the Parent’s MASTER CONTROLS Menu. Enter your email address and special “Parent Password” (as provided upon purchase of the program),
and click OK.
The Parent's MASTER CONTROLS Menu will
now appear.
3. To
set up "Instant Messenger" scheduling for any
child, click Add Child to Program. Fill
in your child's first name and simple password (for the
child to remember later). Then select
the SPECIFIC HOURS
of the day and the TOTAL MINUTES per day that your child
will be allowed to use "Instant Messenger", for each day
of the week.
Be SURE to click
the OK button at the bottom of the Schedule screen. Now
your child's "Instant Messenger" scheduling is all set!
4. Use the same procedure to set up "Instant Messenger" scheduling for each additional child.
5. Please go back to the Parent's MASTER CONTROLS Menu
once again (see above), and take note of the other "Master Control" options available only to you, the Parent (as this special menu is only accessible via your special "Parent Password"). Using this menu... you can Add, Change, Print or Remove your "Instant Messenger" schedule
for any child, add Bonus Time (to give more IM access time to a child
for that day only), Change Passwords for parent or children if needed, and BLOCK ALL ACCESS to IM for as long as you like!
It’s a great idea to PRINT each child’s “IM schedule” as soon as you’ve created it or whenever you make a change… and post it near the computer for easy reference. Simply select the “Print” feature within the MASTER CONTROLS menu, and print an up-to-date “IM schedule” for whichever child you choose!
Important Note: Access to the Parent's
MASTER CONTROLS Menu will be necessary from time to time,
and must be available ONLY to the parent. Therefore, keep
your "Parent Password" in a safe place, and do NOT share
the "Parent Password" with your children!!
6. Show your kids how to use the new "I.M. Control" program!
a. Give each child the printed schedule you made for him/her, and explain that hereafter, "Instant Messenger and MySpace" can only be used during the specific times shown… for each day of the week.
b. Tell each child his/her own special "user name" and "password" (as you previously entered for them), and to remember it, as they will need their password hereafter whenever they want to access "Instant Messenger or MySpace "!
c. Show your kids the simple new
way to access "Instant Messenger" or "MySpace", as
follows:
First: Double-click the bright yellow "clock icon" 
on the computer screen, and a special Instant Messenger
LOGIN Screen will appear.
Second: Enter the child's first name and password where requested, and click OK. The big white I.M. Control "Reminder" box will appear in the lower right of the monitor, which means that your child is now ready to access "Instant Messenger" (or MySpace) .
Third: Sign on to
"Instant Messenger" (or MySpace) in the usual manner.
Fourth:
When the child is DONE using "Instant
Messenger" (or MySpace), be sure to click the "I'M
Done" button in the white I.M.
Control "Reminder" box,
or his "personal clock" for IM use will continue to run and deplete all his allowable time! Also, your child MUST EXIT the "Instant Messenger" program in the usual manner, typically by RIGHT-clicking the little yellow-man icon in the lower right of the monitor, then clicking "Exit".
Now you're
all set up with "I.M. Control" scheduling... and your
kids can use "Instant Messenger" or "MySpace" as you see fit!
